NBC Health Expo in DC Kickstarts National Walk Promotion!

I just got back from the fantastic Washington, D.C. Convention Center, where I attended NBC4's 19th annual Health Expo. It is a GREAT, free event--which will be also open tomorrow, Sunday, January 15. If you are in the D.C. area, I encourage you to attend. The Epilepsy Foundation has a great booth there (1506), along with lots of other health organizations. [View photos of the Expo here.]

Today the Foundation had its spot on the Get Healthy 4 Life  Walking Track. My colleague, Heidi Foote, had signs for the 6th annual National Walk for Epilepsy on March 31, 2012 in D.C., which people walking the track were proudly brandishing. National office volunteer, Mona Simms, was doing a great job getting everyone engaged and ready to WALK!

Over at the Foundation's spot (at spot 1506--stop by!), volunteers Dan Daugherty and his father Neil were manning the booth. Both father and son have epilepsy--Neil was diagnosed in 1949, Dan in 1982. They're from Glenside, Pa., and took the train down just to volunteer. Impressive. We are very grateful to them.

Rob Moss was also at our booth with an excellent, interactive feature--his brainchild, SeizureTracker, which is a really effective tool for keeping track of all information related to your seizures. Rob's son, Evan, has had seizures since he was a month old. Rob's wife, Lisa, is on the Foundation's Board of Directors. They are tireless volunteers for us!

In addition to our great booth, there were dance demonstrations, free Zumba classes all day, kickboxing, free health screenings, health forums (tomorrow features mental health, men's health and childhood obesity).

As with all expos, there are great giveaways (aka swag), too! (C'mon, we all love swag). The Foundation is no exception--we are giving out great Walk recycle bags for people who stop by our booth (did I mention it's at 1506? Good.).

The NBC4 Health Expo is the largest health care expo of its kind in the country, attracting 85,000 visitors over two days (Saturday, January 14 & Sunday, January 15). That is why it's a great way to kick off our Walk promotion every year. Now is the time to get the word out and make a difference!

If you're in the area, please come visit--if not, use this motivation to begin forming your Walk team and registering for the 6th annual National Walk for Epilepsy!

See you in D.C. on March 31, 2012!

Hi Bryan--I know, 85,000 people! That's why we wanted to have a big presence there. It's great visibility. The Walk will be March 31 then our annual Kids Speak Up!/Public Policy Institute will be April 1-3. I'm not sure about the concert. I'll keep you posted.

Great update Lisa.

85,000 visitors? invite a few thousand to our walk. Do we have other events scheduled for our week?
