"I thought of this one a while back.I'm sure we all know somebody that seems to get themselves into situations and blame it on something else. For them i say"Here is your shovel, keep digging! And when you decide to straighten out, remember to…"
"I went for a bone density scan at my neurologist's request. I have been on AEDs for about 20 years now, (especially older ones a ways back) and ended up with osteopenia. At least it wasn't osteoporosis, but still not very good. I've…"
"5 1/2 years after my surgery I was told my Dilantin was causing a low Vitamin D level. My first thought was going on Lamictal but I later decided I wanted to try no meds at all. I was given this opportunity six months before that and now I wanted to…"
I wouldn't think you'd need to go back to see your doc. Give the office a call and leave a message what you should do about this low level. My dd had her vit. D level checked and it came out on the low side. Her dr just called and…"
"An interesting factoid is that when "alzheimer" and "demensia" patients at nursing homes were run through blood tests, they showed a severe lack of vitamin D. For some, it turned out there was little or nothing wrong with them,…"
"Some AED medications will interfere with your body's ability to absorb vitamin D and calcium; I know that trileptal and dilantin are two of them but I think there are a couple of others. I agree with the other people posting here - go for that…"
You can always reach me here. If we find we keep having problems with the word limit, then I'll give you my email address. It goes to my phone, so I try to limit email, so I don't have to hear it go off all day. :D
Looking at the previous conversation, I agree that I have very strange and vivid dreams, too. I always had even worse dreams when I had a TC in my sleep, but my current meds (Lyrica+Vimpat) seem to have taken care of that. I still dream crazy stuff, but at least it's usually not scary crazy stuff anymore. The worst dreams are when I dream I had a seizure. YUUUCK!
My first siezure was a Grand Mal then a focal and then tapered to just a simple for my last one. I have had great strides since I have added a psychologist who specializes in sleep disorders. My nero suspected my siezures were due to lack of sleep. I do get very vivid wierd dreams and wonder if its the drugs or I have a siezure in my sleep as the body shuts down to automatic mode. After a year I was cleared to drive but I have panic and anxiety attacks while driving. I will even pull over or take a back country road instead of the highway. Highways freak me out... call it paranoid.... then I pop a Lorazapam med and it chills me out.
My Nero told me to only take the brandname Keppra; however, my copay is $50. The generic is only $7. My Nero said best results are with brandname and there has been reports of a breakthrough siezure under generic. Well, even after my Nero wrote for brandname I still got dispensed generic. Might be a mix up when I changed pharmacies. So, far the generic is fine but I do get those damn aura's. Aura's have been explained by my psychologist as panic and anxiety attacks with a mix of post traumatic disorder (PTSD) from my first siezures. I take Keppra, Lamictal, and anxiety PTSD meds Remeron and Colanazepam. Nero also gives me a monthly script for Lorazepam that I take when I feel an aura. My siezures are from a stroke I had when I was 38 from a torn carotid artey from an accident. I tell ya, that first siezure (2007)was not as bad as the 3 following it. I've been siezure free from November 2007. I had a couple panic and anxiety attacks after that which mimick a siezure. I hit rock bottom at one point that made me have severe deppression. Thats where the psychologist was recommended and diagnosed me with siezure PTSD bringing on panic and anxiety attacks. I never left my house cause of paranoid feelings.
Hi Steve. Always nice to add new friends! How are things out your way? Crazy busy here, but always nice to take a break here. Thanks for the good wishes on the sz. It really is nice to finally feel a little more in control. I hope you are doing well and always feel free to drop your fellow Minnesotan a line. Take care, Deb
Hi Steve- Sorry it took me a while to respond. Spring has been good. Not only has the snow melted and trees are turning green, but I think we are finally getting my sz under control. Enjoy the rain today! Take care, Deb
