Don Miller said… Kristine, in one way or another all the drugs we are on are addictive whether the doctors admit it or not, a physiological dependence or a psychological dependence
Don Miller said… One question Kristine, do you have a medical degree? I don't.
Don Miller said… Ask your neurologist if you can spread out the Vimpat dosages, I've been on it since it came out on June 9, 2009. Started out at 100 * * 100 and everything was cool, went to 100 * * 200, I was all right at that too, went to 200 * * 200 and I acquired "the drunkard's stagger," still it wasn't too bad, went to 300 * * 300 and everything began to spin, I was crawling around on all fours, Buddy, my service dog sure wondered what was up or is it down? Doc Penovich shifted my 200 mg. Phenytek (Dilantin XR) to noon, and spread out the bedtime dose so now I'm taking:
Dilantin * 200 * 250
Keppra 1750 * * 1750
Lamictal 100 200 200 200
Vimpat 300 * 100 200
Don
that is a heck of a lot of meds, I also have a VNS, and a service dog named Buddy
Don Miller said… Ativan is Valium, time for a rest meds are catching up on me. Buddy's curled up in a ball in his closet (actually, all the closets are his closet) snoring away, they put me on Ativan when I had ankle surgery (to screw together a fracture I got from a seizure) in addition to a spinal that stopped working ten minutes before the surgery was done, I felt everything when they sewed it closed

Andi said… I'm not completely seizure free; only as long as I consistently take my medication. I think the longest I've been seizure free is 1 year, 2 months.
but I'm on 1800 mg/day of Trileptal. I have been on it for 12 years, since I was first diagnosed.
Hi Heather,
I am just another person with Epilepsy. My seizures are controlled with Tegretol. But the side-effects are pretty bad. Sometimes I think they are worse than the seizures.
