So, I started taking Vimpat. My seizures are very rare. So, until this past December, I had been 19 months seizure-free on no meds. Then had a seizure and went on Vimpat and had another seizure(grand…Continue

My biggest problem with Vimpat is my pounding heart, I sweat ALOT now, and my hands won't stop shaking.  But.... Since starting it I have been seizure free for almost a month!! :)

Juanita

That is great news.  I am sure the "one less worry" part is a big help as well.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share some good news. Today I picked up a 6 mths supply of Vimpat from my Neuro. I filled an app with the UBC company that makes it and was accepted. In 6mths if things are still the same I will do the same thing and get another 6mth supply. This takes a big worry off my back. At this time I do not have insurance and this really helps.

I do hope everyone is doing well

Was on Vimpat. I had ringing in my ears, but it was like wave of a whooshing sound...loud and then distant.  I had many scary moments that I wish I could forget. My employers asked to take a leave because I could not perform my job or should I say I perform well.  What a disaster ! They finally took me off it and I went back to being me , but it pretty much helped to hasten the end of my career. Oh well. Atleast the whooshing is gone.

Someone else posted about ringing in the ears, got that (tinnitis) and I thought I was going crazy, haven't had tinnitis since I was on Tegretol, and that is a long time ago, over 20. Also had double vision but that's a kitten in comparison to the freaky Vimpat vision, I've heard about psych side effects but haven't noticed any, anybody experiencing psych side effects?

I'm just on straight Vimpat not XR.

Ina

Unfortunately, having only a Neurologist is "normal". Most of us have a Neurologist, who can do little more than order test and adjust medications.  In my experience  an Epileptologist actually tries to cure you, or at least significantly minimize your seizure activity.

I actually have the best of care.  I have a team of Neurologists, headed by an Epileptologist, at a "Level One Epilepsy Trauma Center" that is rated in the top ten nationwide.  I have had the latest testing available and the newest medications.   I am still classified as "Uncontrolled".

Yes, your situation is normal, but it can be much better.

It's strange with the dosage I'm taking why I have never been sent to an Epileptologist.  I only have a Neurologist, is this the norm?  @Carlton, Everytime I go to the doctor she's either lower my meds or upping my meds that's so weird to me.
