Thanks Bernard - and yes, I had piles of links that I had stored on the disc but for some reason they are corrupted. But the others I have on the memory on the HD but need to build another tower to restore what my future DIL destroyed; the XP Hybrid.

:-/

Hopefully I'll have all the links back and the discs would work on that and I will be able to migrate them all over to Win 7, but if the discs are truly corrupted, dang it!

:(

I'm pretty sure that there are other studies relating seizure frequencies to seasons with reduced sunlight exposure in the winter leading to decreased production of vitamin D being a prime suspect.

I'm frustrated! I can't find any actual studies on weather changes and seizures. It's insane! I mean... I found something from ancient Greece, but it wasn't a study, just a comment about winds from the North causing disturbances leading to the falling sickness. I looked up weather patterns in Greece, and found that Northerlies lead to pressure changes and colder weather. It's been known for millennia, and yet, no studies to be found. It has to be me failing in my research. This is untenable. I will prevail. For now, I am posting an article that mentions weather changes as a trigger, but does not specifically study them.

It gets very quiet in here when I don't post stuff.
I've been SOOO busy with work, and getting stuff ready for Winter.
I'll try to find an article tonight... perhaps about weather changes, and E. There's got to be SOME sort of study out there.

As Ry commented on Oct 26th - weather does have an impact, but I know I had a study (link was on the old computer but if I find another one, I am going to build that one and put my HD (Hard Drive) if it is not infested and try to pull out all my files and bookmarks out).

There is such thing as Seasonal Affective Disorder - it is now being researched by Neuroscience because there seem to be a correlation between seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) and Epilepsy - as some people are just more prone in having the more so at this XXXX time of the year than any other time. Just as for me, I cannot tolerate cold weather or cold itself, it actually trips me off.

Then there's this barometric pressure - it's a problem with people with medical conditions period, some more strongly than others. Like Arther I Tisis and Johnny Horse (being silly here) - people suffer when it rises or drops suddenly. Same applies to me, nothing my Doctors can do about it but the good thing is we know that the present meds are working so far.

I was just put on Vimpat last Wednesday and it seems to pretty good too but then I'm not on my full dosage either so it should really be good then!! lol Like you said Isky we do take chances on new meds. I was in the hospital for 6 days while they had me hooked up to another VEEG. Finally they were able to get two seizures on there. On the C4 so hopefully they will be able to get me with a surgeon to do the in depth electrodes. Thats what I'll have done next to see if I am a candidate for surgery. We shall see!!

Isky, I'm glad you didn't have the H1N1 flu. And yes changes in the weather CAN cause seizures. I have problems when it rains or snows. Just so you know.

Take care lady!! I've also been on Trileptal, Lyrica and boy was I thirsty and I'm thirsty on the Vimpat too. Take care and good luck!
Isky (RyAnne Fultz) Comment by Isky (RyAnne Fultz) on October 26, 2009 at 6:36am
Ah, and it turns out it wasn't just weather change sickness, I have a particularly nasty strain of NOT N1H1 flu.

Yes, I believe weather changes can affect seizures. Sharon does as well. I haven't seen a study on it yet, but I did see one a few weeks ago on migraines and pressure changes. There's a link there. I would think that would at least imply a link for seizures.

When I'm no longer feeling liek a wrung out dishrag, I'll try to remember to loo l it up. If you haven't seen anything from me in a week, poke me.
Isky (RyAnne Fultz) Comment by Isky (RyAnne Fultz) on October 26, 2009 at 6:34am
I had a bad history on Trileptal, thus was never given Tegretol, but... I am not having too many problems on Vimpat.
I do find a need to drink a lot more liquid.. as if Lyrica wasn't bad enough. heh. I drink a lot of lemonade, because of my history of kidney stones, and gatorade. I ensure I get electrolytes. And, I find that salt tastes saltier, so I make sure I still eat as much salt anyway.
Vimpat has been a wonder for me. We always take risks with a new med. Always. We all react a bit differently. Sorry it didn't work out for you, Patricia. :(
antoinette brandt Comment by antoinette brandt on October 25, 2009 at 7:03am
Hi, Patricia! I think all the sodium channle blockers carry a warning that they can elicit more seizures in some sensitive patients. They are known to make some people's EEGs more epileptiform even when they work clinically. It can also cause sodium electrolyte depletion. I think Vimpat is better on liver toxicity and anaemia than the older types. But it is still new. We do not have it available yet in South Africa. With my history on Tegretol and Trileptal, I doubt if I will ever be offered the opportunity to try it.
patricia j. roche Comment by patricia j. roche on October 20, 2009 at 9:43pm
Just a caution to all of you. Tread carefully if you are ever precribed vimpat. I have never had a drug effect me so quickly in a negative way. I did a lot of reading and my doctor thought it would be ok. It has caused me big problems at worked after a seizure in the parking lot, etc. It is the opposite of the research, atleast for me.
