Like everything else on this Planet Earth, every person has a different reaction to things....if in fact the seizures are being triggered by the Marijuana, it's possible that there could be contaminants in the plant such as pesticides or mold (I've found I have the best results if it's organically-grown, medical grade stuff bought from a reputable supplier such as a dispensary). It's also extremely common for your body to become used to the amount of medicine that you're taking ("immune" to it, even), almost to the extent that the pills hardly work anymore....your doctor may try to increase your dosage. Think about other things you're doing in your life as well....getting enough sleep? Stressed out? New, generic medicine? As I said before, Marijuana isn't for everybody....if it isn't working, it isn't working. I have to say though, the fresh, organic kind is best though...junk grown in some random dude's attic is NOT medicine (and will likely make you even more sick). The only way you can have a seizure triggered by Marijuana is if it's treated with pesticides and Miracle Gro....trust me, and you can tell by the smell. Dispensaries don't do this because they know it's crappy weed. Anyway, good luck to you on your seizures....I hope that you can gain control of them, keep an open mind!
Well Girls and Michael, I was one of the Hippies, and if fact I was at Woodstock! But that has nothing to do with this! I am a 65 year old Electrical Engineer who has worked for major corporations for the last 35 years, I am a Vietnam Veteran, and was a Fire Fighter / Paramedic back in the 1970's. My seizure disorder is the result of my exposure to good old Agent Orange in Vietnam, where I was actually directly sprayed with the crap twice coming out the gate of Fire Bases on the Cambodian Border by our helicopters dispensing it , and had that crap on my skin for 6 or 7 hours until I could get it showered off.
The first Grand Mall Seizure I had was in 1974 2 years after I got back from Vietnam, and was out of the Army. I only had a few over the last 35 years, none at all from 1990 to 2010, then Bam! I have had 30 since 2010! I have been using Medical Marijuana as a supplement to the prescription drugs my Neurologist is giving me to help the Seizures and orthopedic problems but my better half has associated the last few seizures with me using marijuana. Thinks it is triggering the seizures.
haha true, I realize they're just silly labels anyway. It was quite the rant I went off on, but it does get tiring after awhile. As if dealing with uncontrollable grand-mals isn't exhausting enough, then I have Johnny Bureaucrat telling me he knows what best for me and my body? Apparently over a decade of over a dozen psychotropic anti-convulsants that didn't control my seizures isn't enough proof to warrant enough investigation into a more natural treatment option. What a bunch of bologna, cooked by highly misinformed a-holes. :)
Nicole I would proudly wear any label you wish to call me America if you can control my Seizures, I bet if we hooked up the electrical cord from the wall of your home to the brain of the normal and give them a taste of the haywire brain attack on our bodies, they would gladly jump on our team to control that ?
You know what really grinds my gears? The perception that anyone who uses cannabis is a potato chip hoarding stoner. I am so tired of this idea that anyone who uses marijuana is a deadbeat loser. I am a mother, and a productive member of society. I was on a political website earlier, and of course the controversial issue of legalization was brought up. I don't know about all of you, but I don't consider myself to be a: hippie, stoner, pothead, deadbeat, or any of the other typical stereotypes that are usually concocted by morons who have little first hand experience with the plant on any medicinal level. Contrary to what some may believe, pot has never been a gateway for me to any other narcotics...no, not even the fridge. I am a non-drinker, non-cigarette smoker, my metabolism and overall health has improved significantly while using medical marijuana. My apologies for the long rant, but I grow very tired of the stereotypes....this isn't a joke to me, I'm not just some dumb kid smoking doobies as society would have me pegged to be. I, as many people on this site I can imagine, are simply trying to controlled a neurological condition. Any thoughts?
I am very impressed by the posting below stating that cannabis oil cured a boy's seizures: http://www.csindy.com/coloradosprings/10-year-old-is-seizure-free-a.... Very impressive results. It seems so clear that cannabis is a healing herb that laws against it just appear arbitrary, archaic and ridiculous at this point.
Seizures are not controlled by traditional medications for 30% of epilepsy patients...being part of that 30%, I fully support any efforts in finding better ways to treat the debilitating condition. Neurological conditions are not as easily treated as say, a sinus infection or cold....good luck to you all in finding natural, safe treatment options! I'm hoping close-minded bureaucrats don't stand in your way as they have with so many others that are suffering...
Sonja I live in Plattsburgh NY we use to go to Albany Med till the dr told me that my son wasn't going to live past 10 years of age and we didn't even have a dx yet. My son also has generalized epilepsy. We go to Boston Children's hospital, very happy. My son has 4 different types of seizures including having night seizures. He is on 4 AED's and a restrictive diet which helped him out ALOT! I sent you a friend quest but I would love to meet up sometime. You aren't that far away and besides anything is closer than BOSTON.
i also live in upstate ny,my 9 yr old was diagnosed w generalized epilepsy 3 yrs ago after a 26 min granmal seizure in school...she is now having uncontrolled night seizures and on keppra, shes being admitted to epilepsy unit again next week....i would love to hear more about medicinal marijuana for her...unfortunately ny state is not passing it for epilepsy
Just scanning the news before bedtime last night and I now have hope restored. Medical Marijuana is going to be legalized in NYS. It's limited, but maybe it'll cover epilepsy.
