I would have to say that yes, stress has been a huge contributer to many of my seizures. I've always have had to find low stress jobs.
Permalink Reply by Cherokee_Male on September 30, 2011 at 1:33am In regards to my seizures, not only is stress & Sleep Deprivation a factor in me having a seizure. But I am also Photosensitive & Hearing sensitive too, so certain lights & sounds will cause me to have a seizure or have multiple seizures.

Sonia,
I have had E for over 45yrs. The best way that I have found to relieve stress or just make myself feel better is to find songs that I really enjoy that are soft and peaceful on my computer, shut the curtains, shut off the lights if they are on, start the music and close my eyes and just think of being as calm and peaceful as the music I am listening to. Instumentals without a lot of drum work great.

i am really starting to get more convulsions what with the added stress that i am under. People keep asking if I forgot to take my medication and i say no. Any suggestions on great stress relief?
Permalink Reply by Kayden on October 1, 2011 at 9:25pm It depends. Stress and lack of sleep are both triggers for me. I haven't had very many seizures, but when I have it has occurred under a stressful circumstance (i.e. sick relative, bad relationship and problems at work). I tend to be on the anxious side but I have learned to cope better with anxiety through exercise (primarily yoga), better time management, and sleep. I strongly believe that those coping strategies have decreased my chances of having another seizure along with the AED I am currently taking.

Can stress play a major role in the life of an epileptic?
The majority of my seizures happened at work or just after work because of stress.

That's because stress can trigger hyperventilation which can provoke seizures, especially absence seizures. It can increase cortisol, known as “the stress hormone” because cortisol is secreted in higher levels during the body’s “fight or flight” response to stress. And, it’s responsible for several stress-related changes in the body which also may influence seizure activity.
Negative emotions related to stress, such as anger, worry or fright, may also cause seizures. This happens because the limbic system, the portion of the brain that regulates emotion, is one of the most common places for seizures to begin. You’ll probably find that you have more seizures during or after periods of anxiety or stress.
Here are two links that deal with vitamins, food and stress. I hope they can be of use.
