Hello, I had a seizure a few days ago and went to the ER the nurse there told me to look into something called Ativan it's used mostly for people with anxiety which I don't have but it can also help with seizures and in the nerves of your brain. I haven't tried it myself yet so I was wondering has anyone tried it themselves or looked into it? Any feedback you can give me would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Even though Klonopin and Ativan are similar, I've had completely different bodily reactions to each. I can easily tolerate Ativan and currently use it to assist with my insomnia at doctor's advice. I went on Klonopin to help with sleep and anxiety years ago, and let's just say...you think "Kepprage" is scary? Then you definitely didn't see me then when I was on Klonopin. I will never try that drug again.

Ativan is a benzodiazapine drug that will act on GABA and cause hyperpolarization to the neuron. When a seizure occurs it is caused by excessive and prolonged depolarization the the neuron. It basically reverses it. I am a avid swimmer and swim many laps almost everyday. I for a while I would have seizures after working out very hard. I now take half milligram of ativan 30 minutes before swimming and it holds the seizures at bay. Best thing that has happened as far as still being able to swim.

Sometimes makes me very tired if I take it. This usually happens a while after I swim.
