Generic drugs are not Dangerous they are much safer... started by Eugina G. Herrera

Much safer than Brand names, I used to be on keppra since the year 2002, with other medications of brand names.

Sometimes brand names can give bad reactions, allergies, side effects than those with generic brand.  Especially Keppra has many side effects, like mood swings, psychosis, aggressive behavior among others I haven't listed,

Sharing my experience with generic, since I'm in the Books at the Comprehensive "e" Center here in  N.Y.C., N.Y of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with the (Research Science Foundation) 4 the majority can comprehend that someday these scientist will find a "Cure".  I take 500 mg of the generic of keppra and today i'm still an "e" without surgery or any other medication, I have grand-mal seizures. and is under control.

Hi Ms Pauline Polzin My name is Eugina diagnosed at the age of 6 months with petit-mal, today 49 with grand-mal on generics is pretty much under control i take the white tablets. of 500 mg twice a day. And when were you Ms. Pauline Polzin diagnosed with Ep?  Some doctors don't always follow protocol by writing out prescriptions for their out patients. Since most neurologists are always concerned if they are getting paid, before our interests to them as patients. In other words Money talks and B......walks. for the most.

We are having great weather here in New York City. Are you guys having great weather too? I hope so.

Ok Ms. Pauline Polzin you stay safe.

When the doctor writes the manufacturer on it they have to give it to you.  It like written DAW.  They also did it for me.  The pharmacy said they might have to send out for that manufacturer but they have to.

I been on XRBrand for 18 years now and hav'ent had a seizure since..This pass year the Pharmacy tryed to get me take generic she said it is the same and another Pharmacy said its not the same the insurance is trying to get everybody to go to generic.  So anyways I called my Neur Dr and the Nurse answer and i explain to her what the pharmist wants to do and she said no you do not take generic people are having seizure changing over,so she called the pharmist and told them do not give me generic unless the dr says to. Then when i saw my dr i ask him and he said its not the same insurance trying to get people to take generic. So dont let the pharmcy fool you dr sais xr Brand take Brand.

Gina,

I would very much like to know where your get any data saying Generic Medications are much safer than Brand Names. Bad reactions and side effects are common elements of any medication ( Generic or Brand Name ). Saying that Generic Medications are safer than Brand Names is no different than saying Pepsi is better than Coke or Sylvania is better than Westinghouse. If you have no experience with pharmachology or medical testing protocal you are stepping into a world of controversial issues. Over-generalization from your individual experience is simply (Misinformation).

I know for a fact that Generics are NOT safer!  My 6 year old daughter cannot take generic Keppra, Lamictal or Topamax, due to the levels ARE NOT regulated in the generics.  10% to 20% less active seizure medicine ingredient can cause severe consequences!   Even when the generic manufacturer is the same, they do not guarantee that it is the same strength of medicine.  Kinda like saying "Aw well, looks close enough to me" when making a recipe.  We know due to seizures, and blood draws, also after changing to all name brand at the same dose we have much better control.  Not sf, but for developing Epilepsy at 3, emergency brain surgery at 4 ( removing RFL and RTL) and years of trial and error with many seizure meds, we will not ever trust a generic, Epilepsy is not something to play with.  It to me is worth knowing that her medicines ARE regulated.

I agree with you 100&

Well, it is not they one is really safer than the other.  Nowadays, the FDA is as tight with generic drugs as they are with name brands.  The main thing is that the name brand companies AND the FDA make sure the drugs are safe before they are put on the market.  Take it from someone who has been a test bunny for many drugs because they are really trying to get my seizures under control.  And, with the generics, they now have to be the same as the name brands and the FDA watches them just as closely after they come on the market.  Most of the time, I take generics and I have not had any bad reactions.  After doing this for 26 years, I am happy to be able to say that.

Good Luck to All,

Mandy
