My daughter was diagnosed when she was 4 with seizures, and she will be 10 in September. We are still battling this condition and have tried different kind of meds to date. She has a seizure about once every 2 months, which is better than once a week like last year. The doctor's keep telling me that they are sure she will grow out of this once she is thru puberty. But, in the meantime she is struggling in school academically and with her behavior. This of course is hurting her chances for making friends, because she is "different" than the other kids. She doesn't seem to mind and still is not fully capable of understanding what she has nor does she care. She has expressive language difficulties which she has a hard time going up and talking to other kids her age, plus they have a hard time understanding her. I feel bad for her, only because I wish she would just be a happy, normal 9 year old with lots of friends and having fun sleepovers with friends. But, friends don't call. She has friends that live on our street, but I feel the kids only play with her because their mom says they have to. She is always calling them or knocking on their doors and I feel sometimes she may be pestering them to much.
I basically joined this group to talk with other parents that are experiencing the same things that we are going thru. Especially, with puberty right around the corner this should be fun. :)
Like I said, the only good thing that she doesn't comprehend what she is up against and the struggles to come. Her ability to do this is also non existent. It just makes me sad that she is going to go thru this without close friends to stand by her side. She has played softball, soccer and we just signed her up for Volleyball. But, with her learning disability she has a hard time comprehending all the rules that are involved and coaches look like they are ready to pull their hair out.
I just hope and pray that she will outgrow this and go on and be a very independent young lady.
Thanks for listening and any advice would be appreciated!!
